The network
Spectrum Internet® is powered by fiber and connected to the premises by coaxial lines.

Spectrum’s network carries traffic over fiber for the long distances, then reaches each home through a coaxial line, usually one already in the walls. For a switch, that matters twice: installation rarely means new wiring, and the Express Connect Kit can often do the job without a technician visit.
On the bill, the useful part is what is missing: no data caps, no overage charges and no throttling for heavy use. If your current provider bills overage or sells an unlimited-data add-on, that charge has no Spectrum equivalent.
Data is unlimited, so there is no allowance to watch and no overage fee to budget for.
Every plan includes the modem, so no monthly rental fee appears on the Spectrum bill. Look for that line on your current one.
Spectrum’s residential plans have no early termination fees. The 1-year price guarantee holds the rate for you; it does not hold you to Spectrum.
A single service gets a 1-year price guarantee, two services get 2 years and three get 3 years. Add Mobile or TV to Internet and the longer guarantee applies automatically, which is worth it when you wanted that service anyway.

Choosing a speed without overpaying
Count the people online at the same moment, what they do and whether the WiFi reaches every room. Then choose the smallest plan that covers it, since each step up adds to every monthly bill.

Enough for one person or a small household doing everyday browsing, video calls and standard-definition streaming on one or two screens at a time. If the complaint is dead spots rather than slow speed, a faster tier will not fix it. Internet 100 with Advanced WiFi at $10/mo comes to $40/mo, the same as Internet 500 without it, and for weak rooms the router can matter more than the extra speed.

Remote work next to streaming generally holds up at this speed. Advanced WiFi adds $10/mo on Internet 500, or comes included in a bundle, where the plan itself drops to $30/mo.

Worth the step up from Internet 500 only when heavy use overlaps: console gaming in 4K, a 4K stream downstairs, a work call upstairs and smart devices running all day. Gig usually has room to spare even then. Advanced WiFi comes included, which is worth $10/mo if you would have added it to a lower tier anyway.

They are $5/mo per extender, so two of them add $10 to every bill: try moving the router first. Elimination of all dead spots is not guaranteed — structural interference and extreme distances can still affect coverage.

Self-setup with the Express Connect Kit costs nothing extra for most homes and typically takes 15–30 minutes after the kit arrives. Prefer a technician? Professional installation is $50.
